Plural formation of nouns अंग्रेजी ग्रामर का एक महत्वपूर्ण भाग हैं जिसके जरूरत आपको आगे चलकर होने वाली हैं | बहुवचन बनाना बहुत ही आसान हैं |

अधिकांश बहुवचन रूप एकवचन शब्द के अंत में केवल -s या -es जोड़कर बनाए जाते हैं। उदाहरण के लिए, एक कुत्ता (एकवचन) है, लेकिन तीन कुत्ते (बहुवचन)। हालाँकि, अंग्रेजी में नियमित और अनियमित दोनों बहुवचन संज्ञाएं हैं।
(1) बहुवचन बनाने का सबसे सामान्य नियम है संज्ञा के अन्त में ‘s’ लगाना।
जैसे-day-days, dog-dogs, house-houses.
(2) यदि संज्ञा के अन्त में ‘o’, ch, sh, s, ss, या x हो तो बहुवचन ‘es’ लगाकर बनता है।
जैसे-box-boxes, tomato-tomatoes, bus-buses, church-churches. किन्तु विदेशी मूल के शब्द तथा संक्षिप्तीकृत (abbreviated) शब्दों का बहुवचन केवल लगाकर बनता है। जैसे-dynamo, piano, kilo, photo.
(3) जिन संज्ञाओं के अन्त में एक व्यंजन (consonant) तथा y हो उनका बहुवचनy के बदले में ies लगाकर बनाया जाता है।
जैसे-baby-babies, lady ladies, country-countries. परन्तु यदि संज्ञा के अन्त में स्वर (vowel) तथा ‘y’ हो तो केवल ‘s’ लगाते हैं। जैसे-boy-boys, donkey-donkeys.
(4) निम्न संज्ञाओं के अन्त का ‘” या “fe’ हटाकर बहुवचन बनाने के लिए उनमें ves जोड़ते हैं।
ये संज्ञाएँ हैं-Calf, half, leaf, loaf, sheaf, thief, self, shelf, wife, life, knifeतथा wolf. Leaf-leaves, life-lives, wolf-wolves. Hoof, scarf तथा wharf का बहुवचन 5 या ves दोनों प्रकार से होता है।
(5) निम्न के बहुवचन स्वर-परिवर्तन (vowel-change) से होते हैं।
जैसे- foot-feet, mouse-mice, woman-women. Tooth-teeth, man-men. Goose-geese.
(6) Child तथा ox के बहुवचन children तथा oxen है।
(7) Fish, deer तथा sheep एकवचन तथा बहुवचन दोनों को व्यक्त करते हैं।
(8) निम्न शब्द सदैव बहुवचन में प्रयुक्त होते हैं तथा उनके साथ बहुवचन की क्रिया लगती है।
Clothes, pants, pyjamas, glasses, binoculars, pliers, arms (शस्त्र), damages (क्षतिपूर्ति हेतु दिया जाने वाला द्रव्य), goods, greens (सब्जियाँ), riches, savings (बैंक इत्यादि में बचाया गया द्रव्य), particulars.
(9) निम्न शब्दों का रूप बहुवचन होते हुए भी ये एकवचन की तरह प्रयुक्त होते हैं
जैसे-news, mumps, rickets, billiards, bowls.
(10) निम्न Greek/Latin शब्दों का बहुवचन Greek/Latin के नियमों से होता है।
- Crisis-Crises
- Phenomenon-Phenomena
- Erratum -Errata
- Addendum-Addenda
- Datum-Data
- Agendum Agenda
- Quorum-Quota
- Memorandum-Memoranda,
- Radius-Radii
- Terminus-Termini,
- Oasis-Oases
- Formula Formulae.
- Fungus-fungi
- Focus-foci
- Analysis-analyses.
(11) Compound-nouns (संयुक्त संज्ञा) के बहुवचन प्रायः अन्तिम शब्द को बहुवच बनाने पर बनते हैं।
जैसे-boy-friends, travel-agents.
परन्तु man तथा woman, उपसर्ग वाले शब्द के दोनों भाग बहुवचन किए जाते हैं
जैसे-women-drivers,
